Turn On Fest 2021: Queer All About It

Hope Mill Theatre Online event: Friday 19 March, 7.30pm

An evening of film, discussion and conversation, QUEER ALL ABOUT IT is a celebration of diverse queer stories and new perspectives through five powerful and moving monologues by emerging LGBTQ+ writers, and the stories and experiences that inspired them. Part of Turn On Fest 2021: Hope Mill Theatre’s annual LGBTQIA+ festival in partnership with Superbia, Manchester Pride’s year round programme of arts and culture.

A young man defies labels and judgement, a sister remembers a fateful family game of UNO and an argument that can’t be taken back; a new father has the first day of school nerves; a woman must prove the thing she has had to hide to save herself; a prodigal son returns home for a family wedding, ready to reveal their true self.

Queer All About It explores topics of class, HIV, fatherhood, asylum seekers, gender and faith in five monologues by emerging LGBTQ+ writers that shine a light on diverse LGBTQ+ experiences. Working with film-makers Bloody Bandit Production and local performers, we have brought these stories to life through a live-recorded monologue performance and four powerful and moving short films.

Inspired by Mark Gatiss’ 2017 Queers monologue series, commemorating 50 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality, Green Carnation Company’s monologue commissions celebrate contemporary queer experiences and showcases new LGBTQ+ writing talent.

Co-artistic directors Dan Ellis and Dan Jarvis hosted the evening, introducing each film and discussing the themes and topics within each film along with the true life stories that inspired them.
