Queer All About It Monologues

As a legacy of our Queer All About It digital film project, we have published the four monologues so that they can be used by anyone for non-commercial purposes.

These four monologues were written by LGBTQ+ writers and were commissioned and developed with Green Carnation Company and turned into short films as part of our 2020 digital project funded by Arts Council England.

We recognise monologues for diverse LGBTQ+ voices can be hard to find, and we hope that these monologues provide a useful resource for auditions, drama exercises, monologue nights, learning materials and more. If you are using any of these monologues please let us know and we would love to support on our social media.

These scripts have been provided with permission of the writer for non-professional use only. Any requests to perform the script, or for other professional uses (including but not limited to publication and recording) must be sent to Green Carnation Company at greencarnationtheatre@gmail.com

QUIET AS A THREAT by Juliana Ayeni-Stevens

Commissioned by Picador and Green Carnation Theatre

To mark the paperback release of Booker Prize-winning author Alan Hollinghurst’s latest novel Our EveningsPicador Books partnered with Green Carnation Theatre to launch a national writing competition celebrating queer memory, theatre and identity.

The winning script, Quiet as a Threat by Juliana Ayeni-Stevens, explores the emotional toll of exclusion and performative allyship faced by Black queer women — even within LGBTQ+ spaces. It’s a bold and intimate exploration the tension of being both invisible and hyper-visible, and the emotional toll of exclusion, misunderstanding, and performative allyship.
